A clear Second Skin bandage will be applied to your new tattoo. Keep this bandage on for 5-7 days, with a minimum of 48 hours. If you have been given a second bandage to replace after 24-32 hours, follow the instructions in step 2 below.

This bandage is breathable and water-resistant, so you can shower and resume your daily activities as usual. However, avoid long, hot showers, as high temperatures may cause the bandage to lift prematurely. Additionally, refrain from intense exercise, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, hot baths, and swimming until the tattoo is fully healed. Light exercise is acceptable once the bandage is removed and any scabs have fallen off.

REMOVING THE BANDAGE:

Before touching your tattoo, always wash your hands thoroughly. After 5-7 days, remove the bandage under warm running water—heat and moisture help loosen the adhesive better than a dry peel. For best results, remove the bandage in a warm shower.

Your tattoo may feel “slimy” after removing the bandage, as this is blood and plasma. Once the bandage is removed, wash the tattoo with mild, unscented, preferably antibacterial soap. Clean the area gently in circular motions with your flat palm until the slimy feeling is gone and there is no visible blood.

Pat the skin dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid using regular towels, as they can harbor bacteria. Let your tattoo air dry for about 10 minutes, keeping it elevated and away from contaminants.

1) If your tattoo isn’t heavy on color, you can let it air dry for 24 hours before moisturizing. Once your skin is completely dry, apply a gentle, unscented moisturizer as needed. Continue washing your tattoo until fully healed, which typically takes around 3 weeks.

2) If you’ve been provided with a second bandage due to a larger color tattoo, cut the bandage into manageable strips and apply it once the tattoo is fully dry. Leave a 1.5-inch border around the tattoo and wear the bandage for the remaining 5-7 days. Once applied, go straight to bed and allow your tattoo to rest.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Swelling, pain, and redness are normal. For discomfort, you may take Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen. If you're concerned about infection or if symptoms do not improve after 24 hours, consult a physician.

Things NOT to do:
-
Do not use anything on the tattoo other than the recommended aftercare products.
-
Do not pick, peel, or scratch your new tattoo.
-
Do not use rubbing alcohol, peroxide, or cortisone on the tattoo.
-
Do not use washcloths or any abrasive materials to clean your tattoo, as they can irritate it and harbor bacteria.
-
Do not let anyone touch your new tattoo.
-
Do not swim in lakes, pools, hot tubs, or baths, as these contain bacteria.
-
Do not expose your new tattoo to direct sunlight or tanning beds. A high SPF sunscreen will help preserve the clarity and longevity of your tattoo once it’s fully healed.
-
Do not rebandage the tattoo unless instructed to after 24-32 hours. If your bandage leaks overnight, keep it covered with tape until morning, then promptly remove and continue with the cleaning and aftercare process. The Second Skin is helpful but not necessary for tattoo healing, so don’t attempt to reseal it with tape or ointment.
-
Refrain from vigorous exercise. Sweat can lift the bandage prematurely and increase the risk of infection.

Remember to keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight for the first few weeks of healing. Once fully healed, apply a good SPF sunscreen on the tattoo to prevent fading.
